Dr. Mele Avilla’s research aims to provide an unbiased approach to assess the singular effects of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) exposure on sex, age, body mass index (BMI), and to other PFAS using serum data from CDC National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2012 cohort.

Elise’s focus is on a comprehensive survey of the diversity and ecology of bacterial sulfur metabolism in the gut bacterial community of humans in 3 different health statuses: healthy, with adenomas, or with colorectal cancer.
